THE ROAD TO PPL

I got my instructor certification from the British Horse Society, by going to Porlock Vale Equestrian center, Porlock Somerset England and taking an intense 4 month course when I was the ripe old age of 18, I have worked as an instructor off and on my whole life, but for the most part used the skills earned coaching Pony Club and 4H when my kids were growing up, I have 3 children and one Grandchild, all of which are GIFTED!!! For the past 15 years I have run FLANSBURY ANIMAL CARE SERVICES, We provide in your home care for pets and livestock. I have been part of Personal Ponies Ltd for only a few months. How I found the road to Gail, Miss Beasley (Miss B) and Mikala (Mickey) goes something like this. My youngest child’s pony, joined his friends in our orchard, about 2 years ago. The child was 24 at the time, the pony was well into his thirties. After about a year, it became clear to me that an empty barn was just not going to work. I then called my local favorite do and fix anything person. He got the stalls all back in good nick, repaired and replaced fencing. We were good to go. Now what??? I thought about the equine rescue, then I remembered a friend who had kept two PPL mares in her pasture while they were in the process of being moved to a new home. After getting some information from my friend, I found the PPL web site and was totally seduced. I next received an application from Gail. While going through the process of filling it out, organizing references, having digital photos taken of the barn and turn out areas and writing my biography, I told Gail it would probably be easier to get a baby from China than one of her ponies! My friend Connie Quinn and I drove up for our “personal interview” on a lovely Sunday in Sept. and met Gail and saw first hand her incredible operation. We were taken on the “tour” which meant meeting every mare and stallion they had been covered by. Connie and I were so impressed with Gail, she not only identified every pony, she KNEW every pony. We were told every detail of their history, but even more impressive, every quirk or endearing trait each one had. But most of all, the ponies all knew she really was one of them!! I am sitting down at the end of my day, trying to finish this. I just came in from closing the barn for the night, I feel so completely at peace.
